Joe Agius has been a Director of COX since 2006 and is part of the practice’s national executive group guiding strategy and design direction.
He has recently completed his tenure as the NSW Chapter President of the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA). Through this role he was a member of the AIA’s National Council, chairs the AIA’s Chapter Council and Awards Committee, as well as leads the Chapter’s key advocacy activities.
Joe currently sits on the NSW Minister for Finance & Services “Business Advisory Group” and the Dean’s Advisory Board for both UTS and Canberra University Architecture Faculties.
His professional activities include: AIA NSW Chapter Councillor (2010-2012); editorial chair of the Architecture Bulletin magazine (2010-2012) – a publication to which he is a regular contributor; and member of the 2011/12 Sydney Architecture Festival organising committee, where he represented the NSW Architects Registration Board. He was jury chair of the AIA student awards in both 2010 and 2011.
He has presented work of the practice at UNSW, Newcastle and Canberra universities as well as presented at a number of conferences. He is a regular studio critic/juror at UNSW, and has previously been involved at the University of Sydney and University of Newcastle in similar capacity.
Joe is Design Director for a number of the Sydney studio’s recent projects. He has experience on a wide range of project types, including university/education, research, public and cultural buildings, commercial and hotel buildings, as well as master planning. He brings a strong focus on creating a positive civic interaction with the public domain to each of his projects.
